My Star off the rails

The show that has gained popularity among Batswana failed to give the audience value for their money. After being scheduled to start at 7pm the show was delayed by more than one-and-a-half hours as it only started a few minutes before 9pm.

But problems were just starting for the talent search show. Aspiring singers complained about not hearing the music but were just made to continue singing nevertheless.

The show was characterised by long pauses between performances as technicians struggled to pick contestants' songs. At that point the audience lost patience and started murmuring with disapproval as some of them left. When the situation got worse the judges had to drop everything to help the technicians fix the PA system that could not play music at that point.

Meanwhile, three aspirants left the competition on Friday. Thabo, Goodwill and Boitumelo were sent home after getting fewer votes. They were in the hot seat alongside Thapelo and Tumisang who were saved by the judges. It is still difficult to determine which contestants will make it all the way as aspiring singers are yet to discover their talent.

As expected at this stage of the competition, contestants are still struggling with the basics of singing. While few contestants like Khumo, Sindiso, and Ralph are promising it is still a long way to go for most contestants.
