Lebotse retained as BONA boss

Only three new members joined the committee, filling positions that were vacant as a result of resignations. After grilling the old committee during deliberations, members showed that they still had trust in them when they gave them another chance at the helm.

Tebogo Lebotse will continue to lead the association as president after beating her challenger, Onkemetse Mpudi by eight to four votes. Lebotse has been at the helm of the netball body for six years. She will lead it for another four years. Former national team coach, Seipei Gaelesiwe is the new vice-president in charge of technical matters after he humiliated Kgomotso Mtokufa 12-1 in voting. The position has been vacant following the resignation of Setshidi Botlhole Mmopi.

Agnes Nthokgo was unopposed in the race for the treasurer's post that was also vacant.  Vice president in charge of projects and events is Tiny Hirschfeld who beat Neo Gwafila Bulayani in the ballot. Kelebogile Maplanka is the new marketing and public relations officer after Bakwena Oitsile who held the position for many years did not seek re-election. After failing to topple Lebotse, Mpudi beat Kelebonye Mabeo in the race for the position of development officer. For the first time in many years, all BONA committee members are women.

Lebotse thanked the affiliates for once again putting their trust in her committee. She told them that it is not going to be an easy journey, but she promised that just like before, they will persevere. She said she adopted a tough stand in her first years in office after she realised leniency will not take her anywhere.

'I realised that after I tried to compromise and be more lenient, things went out of hand. I have learnt that at times, you just have to be unpopular among people that you lead for the organisation to achieve results,' she said.
