Mpete wins DTC shining light award

 

Mpete wins herself P50,000 cash, after winning with a captivating necklace design that shows an energetic woman working.  The 18 carat white and yellow gold neckpiece is also set with 486 round brilliant and fancy cut diamonds with a total weight of 36.63 carats.

She will also exhibit at an international event in South Africa.Other winners on the night were David Moatsi, with a neckpiece with diamonds weighing 47.58 carats.  It is also set with 1,304 round brilliant tapers and baguette cut diamond.  Olerato Temogo, Catherine Markeydes, Thusonyana Othomile, Lesedi Aboneng, Tshegofatso Ragontse also won themselves P5,000 each.  Their winning pieces have made it into a catalogue that will go around the world displaying these unique designs.

The 2013 DTC Shinning Light Awards night also had local models for the first time showcasing the winning pieces as they strutted their stuff on the ramp.  It is the first time that models were used to model the pieces and the audience at the GICC were stunned by the experience.The night also saw winning pieces from Namibia being displayed by the models on a night of colour with eye-catching screenplays by the multi-media team.

The night started with operatic music that was soon followed by acrobatic dancers performing to the tune.Local poet TJ Dema wowed the hall with a well-rehearsed musical poetry as the dancers performed beautifully behind her.  Radio personality Tshepo Ntshole was also impressive as the M.C. on the colourful night.The second session of the awards also saw performers dancing to Botswana drums.  Shanti Lo's band played soulful music in the background in between breaks.

Security was tight from the gates of the Grand Palm right into the entrance, as armed guards could be seen on duty to protect 14,000 pieces of diamonds in these jewellery collections that include neck pieces, rings, belly pieces, beaded skirts just to name a few.
