World TB Day commemoration goes to Maun

This year's commemoration marks the end of a two-year campaign dubbed 'Stop TB in my lifetime.' 'With this campaign, partners call for zero TB deaths and a statement that the world's failure to stop deaths from TB is indignation,' the statement says. 'It is hence imperative to sensitize communities and all concerned stakeholders for a more collective responsibility towards curbing the spread of TB.'  Global tuberculosis control remains a major challenge for an infection that is curable. The collaboration between the MoH and media houses can ensure the reduction and prevention of the stigma surrounding TB infection, the co-infection of Tuberculosis with HIV (TB/HIV) and the emerging threat from drug-resistant forms of TB.

'The two bodies should then aggressively create public awareness,' the statement emphasises. The commemoration, to which the media has been invited, will be opened by Vice President of Botswana Ponatshego Kedikilwe. It will start with a motorcade led by the Vice President from Boseja Caltex Fuel Station to Maun Old Mall at 6am on Sunday where the programme will start at 8am.
