SPTC absolved from stadium blackout

SPTC parks supervisor, Losika Kula said that the game was called off because of power cut by the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and had nothing to do with the state that the floodlights are in at the moment.'We have now decided to request BPC not to cut off electricity on the side of the stadium especially when there are games. Load shedding can be done after the matches,' said Kula. Apparently, lights at the stadium are not working properly and when it went black when the two teams were on the pitch, accusing fingers were pointed towards the SPTC. Now, because of the malfunctioning lights, teams that are using the Selebi-Phikwe stadium for their be MOBILE Premier League night games will have to wait longer before the flood lights are sorted out.

Apparently, one of the lights that just go on and off when it heats up during the games, affecting the quality of lighting in the arena. Kula told Mmegi Sport in an interview that the plan is to have the lights serviced during the month of April when his department has been allocated funds by the town council. He said that at the moment they are aware that the lights are not functioning well. He explained that the procedure will be to invite companies to tender for the job and at the moment it is a waiting game for the financial year to start, as the coffers are dry.Kula also added that they had given a certain company to service the lights last year but it seems like it did a shoddy job.

Meanwhile, when responding to complaints that the lawn at the stadium had over-grown, Kula admitted that the machine that they have been using broke down.  He noted that the parts that they needed had arrived and the machine will be fixed. He said that they were forced to cut the lawn with an old machine and the facility is now ready for use.
