Amantle Montsho should stay out of politics

The athlete is clearly campaigning for the BDP through the media. She should get the message that there is a difference between government and the BDP; she should not misconstrue government funded athletics programmes and rewards accorded to her as coming from BDP. Even if she had said she was BCP or a member of any other party in the opposition we would have advised her to keep that to herself and focus on her career. The BCPYL is of the view that sportspersons representing Botswana internationally should focus on their careers and serve the nation as role models for children and aspiring athlete   and stay clear of politics.

The league further notes with concern that it is not only Amantle; it is a phenomenon across performing arts and sport whereby there is failure to distinguish between the BDP and government. In some cases it is a clear case of deliberate mischief to mix the two. Whether it is professional, casual or intramural, sports (performing arts in general) have been a great unifying factor in Botswana as it brings us together as a people.

It is the likes of Montsho who contaminate the industry with their mischievous political statements and or association.  The BCPYL respect Montsho's freedom of speech and association with any organisation. However, she should understand the consequences of her association, especially when it divides the nation she united and represented with distinction. *Dithapelo Keorapetse  President, BCPYL
