BCL Mine celebrates 4m fatality-free shifts

BCL Mine public relations and marketing manager James Molosankwe told Mmegi Business that the company has achieved a record four million fatality free shifts in all its operations. He explained that the record, which was realised from July 7, 2010 to March 2013, is equivalent to 32.77 months, which can be translated to 33,902,483.6 million hours without fatal accidents.

He said that the highest attainment by the company was of two million fatality-free shifts back in 2001.Molosankwe said the company has decided to celebrate the record with employees on May 21. He said the ceremony would be held at the BCL mine site.  He explained that the aim of the ceremony is mainly to recognise individual and group efforts and raise the level of awareness about the importance of safety in mining.

Molosankwe revealed that they have invited the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Kitso Mokaila to officiate at the event as the guest speaker. Botswana Chamber of Mines CEO Charles Siwawa will also give some remarks on the day.
