Tribute to Alex Patrick Radull

 

He was one of the few early technical personnel who pioneered the commissioning of Orapa mine and participated in the development of open cast mining regulations. In 1979 he was promoted and assigned to establish Letlhakane Mine where he managed the entire mining operations. He was responsible for the development of mining plans as well as the development of mining engineers.

Alex completed his primary education at Mbaga Primary School in Kenya and secondary school at Tabora High School in Tanzania. He was awarded a scholarship to study for a degree in Mining Engineering at Camborne School of Mines, in Cornwall, England, from 1963 to1967.  He later completed a management degree through UNISA.In 1983 he secured a position as Assistant Manager with Mining and Technical Services, (MATS), UK in Angola but due to the challenges of a country undergoing civil war he resigned after only two years and returned home to Kenya.

After his return he engaged in various businesses, including transportation, retail and computer work.Education was important to him and he built one secondary school and headed several others as chairman of the Boards of Governors. Radull was a very strong Christian and in 2003 he was elected the first chairman of Bondo Catholic Church Parish in Bondo town. He resigned later due to his failing health. Radull was diagnosed with cancer and diabetes in December 2004. He underwent surgery and radiotherapy and was able to live a relatively healthy life for many more years.

Over the years Radull developed high blood pressure and several other health issues like kidney infection and brain infarcts. He was hospitalised several times over the past few years but always managed to beat the disease. He finally succumbed to his ailments on May 19th 2013.Radull was born on July 17th 1940. He is survived by his wife Patricia and his two daughters Florence Radull and Carol Radull-Njiru. His two sons Robert and George Radull are both late.May the Almighty keep his soul in eternal life, until we meet again.
