Land registration takes off in Mogoditshane

According to the Land Registration Coordinator, Tshepho Ramhakana, this was the first time they operated during the weekend and brought their services close to the people. He said they have decided to open during the weekend as they have realised that even though their main offices  operate from  Mogoditshane, Mmopane and Gabane main kgotlas from 8am until 6pm, many people are unable to claim or register their plots due to various reasons such as jobs and other responsibilities.

He said that the temporary offices brought to Nkoyaphiri and Senthumole kgotlas have been a success as many people flocked there to claim their plots.Even though during the day numbers of people coming forward to claim their plots reduced, others kept coming one by one. 'We expect more people to show up to claim their wards. I encourage those who would not be able to claim theirs today to come in large numbers even during the week,' Ramhakana told The Monitor.

He said that they have surveyed over 6,400 plots across Mogoditshane and have registered over 1,790 plots, way below their target. He urged Mogoditshane and surrounding areas' residents to come forth and register their plots, as the beneficiaries of the ongoing process.

Even though LAPCAS project is still rolling out, the appointed teams are faced with a few challenges such as not being able to find landowners as some plots are either abandoned or left with tenants while some plots do not have beacons making it difficult for the land surveyors.

Ramhakana pointed out that in some instances they find plot beacons but do not find owners. He also said that low claims is delaying the progress of the project as they have targeted to complete it in a period of four months. Ramhakana urges the community to claim their land, as this would save them some money as surveying costs P16,000 per plot.

He also said that the programme would benefit them as they would be able to secure their land title, reduce disputes, it will reduce development costs, ease provision of land boards services and promote transparency in the land boards.Next Saturday the team will bring their services to all Mmopane wards and urge the community to come and claim their plots in large numbers.
