BNSC releases list of awards nominees

Speaking at the event on Friday, the chairperson of BNSC, Solly Reikeletseng said that they will continue to roll out the red carpet to those who continue to raise the nation's flag high.
He rubbished allegations that they put more resources in the ceremony than in performance.He said that it is worth billions for the athletes to stand in the podium watched by people all over the world. He said athletes' efforts will never be paid back and even what the BNSC is doing at the awards ceremony is not enough.
In the for sportsman of the year, boxing's Oteng Oteng, Isaac Makwala of athletics and Ofentse Bakwadi of karate are the nominees. The sports woman of the year will be contested by Amantle Montsho of athletics, Tshepiso Lopang of chess and one of the most decorated local karatekas Thato Malunga.
Botswana Athletics Association, Botswana Volleyball Federation and Botswana Boxing Association will battle it out for the best executed development plan of the year.Lucas Rakgampu of karate, Edgar Serole of volleyball and Abel Alex Mataboge of softball will be vying for the umpire/referee of the year.
In the coach of the year category, Thebe Setlalekgosi of boxing, Mogomotsi Otsetswe of athletics and Dop Popo of volleyball have made the cut. Special Olympics football team, 4 x 4 women's relay team and Kutlwano women team have been shortlisted for team of the year award.
The junior female of the year award will be contested by Christine Botlogetswe of athletics, Tracy Chaba of volleyball and Naomi Ruele of swimming. In the junior male of the year, Olympic silver medalist, Nigel Amos of athletics is competing with Khaya Groth of karate and Adrian Todd of swimming.The sport administrator of the year award is a contest between Michael Moroka of boxing, Ross Tebele of Special Olympics and Tshepo Sitale of chess.
The Botswana Boxing Association, Botswana Chess Federation and Botswana Volleyball Federation are the nominees for the sport code of the year. The group codes of the year nominees are Botswana Tertiary Schools Association (BOTESSA), Botswana Special Olympics and Botswana Integrated Sport Association (BISA).
The non-citizen of the year nominees are Kevin Branch of motor sport, Grish Ramakrishna of cricket and Estony Hattingh of judo.
Meanwhile, the theme song for the 33rd annual BNSC awards has been composed by A.T.I and Nnunu and features Solly Sebotso. Tickets for the awards ceremony will go on sale this week. The ticket for a table is P10,000 while individuals will pay P1,000 to attend the event.
