Phikwe marathon introduces corporate challenge

A member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Masego Masunga told Mmegi Sport this week that the corporate challenge will see organisations competing against each other.She explained that the teams would get prizes for the fastest team, a team with most participants, for the best team spirit and also the team that will be branded the best.She said that teams that have already registered are Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), BotswanaBureau of Standards (BOBS), Bamangwato Toyota, Air Liquid, and Botswana Life Insurance Company (BLIC).

She noted that the winner of the 10 kilometres race will walk away with P2, 000, the second prize is P1, 000 while the third prize is P750.Masunga said the response towards the biggest marathon in the country has been positive and that they were expecting more runners to participate.The main stage of the marathon will be the 42, 2 kilometres for both men and women. Masunga said the winners (both men and women) would pocket P25,000 each. The second prize is P15, 000 and the runners who will arrive third at the finishing line will take home P7, 500.  The winners of the 42, 2 kilometre races will use their running time to qualify for International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) events.

There will be also the 15km race for students. The winners will walk away with P5, 000, the second prize is P2, 500, and the third prize is P1, 000.'Mascom Wireless has released P112, 000 as prize money for the 42, 2 kilometres and 15 kilometre races. I cannot reveal the total amount of sponsorship from Mascom because we are still finalising some logistics.  'We are still working hard to find sponsorship for other categories, but at the moment there are some companies that have shown interest in assisting us,' said Masunga.

She explained that some of the companies that have already agreed to sponsor the marathon are FNBB, BOBS, Builders World (Selebi-Phikwe),Pick n Pay (Selebi-Phikwe), Fresh Park Fresh Produce, Bamangwato Motors, Madi Madi Cash Loan, Cresta Bosele Hotel, Grill Master Restaurant, Bophelo Bakery, Gosiame Supermarket, Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL), Botswana Savings Bank (BSB), Reliable Wholesalers, Botswana Life Insurance Company (BLIC), A1 Cash 'n Carry, CA Sales (Francistown), Vivo Energy, Marata Molefe Attorneys, Phikwe Bugle and Superbread Bakery.

She added that registration is being done at all Cresta hotels and Mascom shops in Francistown and Selebi-Phikwe, KB Mall in Gaborone and Selebi-Phikwe near the Post Office.She said that they also expect runners from other countries and that some have already confirmed their participation.There will also be a four kilometre fun run for the'health conscious'.
