Their closet title rivals, Nico United dropped points once again when they drew 1-1 against Prisons XI on Saturday.Chiefs have now opened a three-point lead at the top with five matches remaining. They now need to collect seven points from the remaining five matches, which will take them to an unassailable 63 points. Nico United can only finish at 62 points if they win all their remaining three matches. Chiefs are yet to play Extension Gunners, Miscellaneous, Mogoditshane Fighters, Prisons XI and BMC. Nico on the other hand are to play Gaborone United (GU), Gunners and Motlakase Power Dynamos in the remaining matches.
GU and BDF XI also fell behind in the title race after registering disappointing results over the weekend. GU played to a goalless draw against Miscellaneous while BDF XI lost 1-0 to Township Rollers on Sunday. GU dropped to position four while BDF XI moved to position five. ECCO were the biggest movers in the top half, moving from position five to position three. They hammered Mogoditshane Fighters 6-1 in one of the biggest results this season. Only three points separate them from second placed Nico United with three games left.
They trail log leaders, chiefs by six points. Rollers retained position eight on the log after their win over BDF XI on Sunday. Midfielder, Maano Ditshupo scored the only goal of the match to give his side a victory. Rollers were without Lovemore Murirwa, Edwin Motlhagodi and Thato Bolweleng who are suspended by the club after an incident that happened a day before their match against Miscellaneous. Motlakase lost to Notwane, further denting their efforts to finish in the top eight bracket. Notwane maintained their good form and continued their fight to avoid relegation. It was their second successive victory, having defeated Gunners a fortnight ago. Meanwhile, Fighters look set to join BR Highlanders in the lower division after yet another loss.
