Please adopt my school - Principal

Speaking during the school's seventh anniversary victory celebrations on Saturday, Motshegwa said since the initiative started no company has approached the school. 'I am making this appeal because the assistance we receive from council alone is insufficient to address the needs of the school to make it a conducive learning environment for pupils.'  She applauded committed parents who have been supportive of their children.

She however said this success was not achieved without challenges because some pupils had to be pushed to study harder. The school achieved a 94 percent pass rate last year, with 50 of its 128 PSLE candidates attaining A pass, 35 Bs, 35 Cs and 8Ds last year. From the 97 percent pass rate the previous year, the school was awarded P30, 000 by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in recognition of its efforts. The money was used for the purchase of two computers and a printer.

Chief Education Officer for primary education in the Selebi-Phikwe region Lillian Matshameko said the school's excellent performance was a sign that teachers and management had accepted responsibility for administering the school curriculum. She added that good results have been achievable because of the communication, cooperation and coordination strategy the school had adopted.

'Good results do not just come by a stroke of luck but it involves hard work. I encourage you to continue with the hard work and encourage parents to be part of the education of their children,' she said.  Matshameko further said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development is committed to motivating schools as evidenced by the prizes awarded to the best performing schools.'  The onus is now upon parents to play a role in ensuring that the school maintains good results this year and beyond,Ó she noted.

Orange Botswana's Sales and Corporate Manager Monamodi Kgopana said Orange as a technology company would assist the school when resources are available. He added that stakeholder involvement forms an integral part of children's education and implored the school management to go out and knock on doors for the private sector to invest in the school.

'The private sector must provide modern technology for a conducive learning environment,' he said.  He pledged P50, 000 towards books for the school's library while another Orange Botswana employee donated P200.
