Student aims for more glory

The 18-year-old former Sefhare Junior Secondary School student is the best overall junior certificate (JC) holder in the northern region with a merit grade comprising eight As and one B.She told Mmegi that she still wants to achieve more. Mokoto started her education at Hillcrest Primary School in Gaborone before moving to Sefhare.She is presently doing form four at Maru-a-pula Secondary School.

'I obtained eight grade As and one B. I won a scholarship to study at Maru-a-pula Secondary School where I am currently doing my form four,' she said.Mokoto comes from a family of three - her mother, Tshegetsang Mokoto and father, Dipeke Tsemane.'I always wanted to pass with a merit,' she said.She said that she works hard everyday in her studies because she wants to do her A-levels in London.

'I want to pass my studies and do medicine. I want to be a doctor and help my country provide better health services,' she said.'I am a Christian, I go to Wonder Life Ministries at Sefhare and church is one of the areas that I got inspiration from,' she related, 'I have been a Christian ever since my childhood. At Sunday school we were told to focus on our schoolwork and take our studies seriously. This is what helped me to achieve these marks'. She said the Maru-a-pula scholarship came as a surprise, a day after the results were officially announced.

'I received a phone call that I have won a scholarship to Maru-a-pula Secondary School. I was overwhelmed with happiness,' she said. Mokoto said passing with merit took determination and passion.  'I am from a rural village where resources are limited unlike in towns and cities - but that did not discourage me from following my dreams,' she said.
