Fisher gets diplomatic post

 

A media note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation yesterday said General Fisher was replacing Clifford Maribe who has served in Nigeria since 2009. Before his appointment to Abuja, Fisher has been a senior lecturer at the University of Botswana's (UB) Department of Political and Administrative Studies after joining the country's highest institution of learning at the beginning of 2011.

In August 1998, Fisher was inducted in both the International Fellows Hall of Fame of the United States Army War College (USAWC) and the International Officer Hall of Fame United States Command and General Staff College (USCGSC).He spent 28 years in the Botswana Defence Force and has worked extensively within the AU and SADC security structures. In 2010, Fisher was appointed by the African Union to lead a study team to review the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA).

General Fisher holds an MBA from the University of Botswana and an MPA from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College (USCGSC), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; the United States Army War College (USAWC), Carlisle, Pennsylvania; and the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California.

He has also held positions at both Wits University and Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He has lectured on the Masters in Strategic Studies at the University of Namibia. General Fisher is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana.
