Morupisi summons BOFEPUSU chiefs

 

Morupisi confirmed today's meeting, saying they would discuss how they deal with their relationship as civil servants in light of workers active participation in politics.

BOFEPUSU's Deputy Secretary General Ketlhalefile Motshegwa also confirmed the meeting.  In a statement two months ago, Morupisi cautioned all public employees that they were not allowed to engage in active politics. The statement was released after BOFEPUSU's call on its members to vote for the opposition candidate in the Letlhakeng West by-election.

'Public employees are advised to guard against being misled into believing that the category of employment under which they are employed entitles or guarantees them the freedom to actively participate in political activities. Public employees, including those in trade union leadership, are therefore, advised not to disguise their political agendas, in the name of freedom of association,' said Morupisi.

He cautioned trade union leaders to focus on their primary role of improving the terms and conditions of employment of their members as well as fostering and promoting harmonious labour relations. He said public employees 'are warned that their continued participation in active politics shall render them liable for disciplinary action'.'Accounting officers and supervisors have been directed to monitor compliance with the aforementioned provisions of the Act,' he said.
