Youthful line up for City Takers gig

 

The concert will take place on the Game City Terrace, with several youthful outfits including X-Caliber, The Transmitters, solo artists Bokamoso 'MVP' Mokola, Daniel 'Danny L' Mmemo set to perform at the event.Botswana's first gospel Hip-Hop disc jockey, Riley Serojane, popularly known as DJ Riley, will be on the decks on the day.

The organisers of the event, which looks set to attract youths in numbers, said its purpose is to demonstrate that the younger generation does not have to use alcohol, drugs, sex and engage in other social ills to be entertained.  Spokesperson for the organisers, George Steinbach said the event will also showcase a few other unknown artists. 

'We can be the generation that breaks these destructive habits and lifestyles. We also, through this event,showcase talented artists that have not been able to be on stage,' he told Showbiz.X-Caliber go into Saturday's performance with a bit of international familiarity after stints in Cape Town, South Africa and Lusaka, Zambia where they opened for USA Christian rap artist, Sho Baraka.

The group recently shared the stage with revered Malawian rapper Kevin 'KBG' Gumbi.  X-Caliber is made up of Boikanyo 'Mr Malcom' Mataboge, Patrick 'Genirol' Kabamba, Obuile Obie Bodigelo, Ato 'Stretch' Chartey, Kabo 'Christianboi' Katse and Thato Kealotswe.  The group's GPRS album was their debut and has tracks like Light Invade produced by Mataboge, Ja Monate and Give My Life. 

The highlight of their involvement in music so far was when they shared the stage with Grammy-nominated Lecrae, the 116 Clique, Da Truth, The Ambassador and other Cross Movement artists.  On the other hand, DJ Riley continues on an incessant rise with his Missfits Boombox project that is booming all over the continent. 

His maiden continental masterpiece contained tracks by Namibian artists Lee Anne Abrahams, Metamorph, White Ink, Zambia's Word Effect, Willy Paul of Kenya, The New Born of Nigeria and South Africa's Jay. 

Botswana's youthful Hip Hop outfit Rebirth and X-Caliber also feature on the mixtape.  The ground-breaking compilation was themed One God, One Gospel, One Continent, One Voice. Steinbach said Saturday's event will show that there is amazing talent in the country.
