Don't sell your land - Kgosi Gaborone

Addressing Lenyaneng Kgotla on Saturday, he said he has been receiving many cases of Tlokweng residents seeking to transfer their land to the people they were selling to.He said these transfers later disadvantage  Tlokweng residents, as they are left landless. 'If we are not careful, Tlokweng is going to be dominated by non-Batlokwa. Many residents in Tlokweng fail to understand the importance and value of land because many of them love money so much so the decisions they make about transferring their land to people they hardly know is always because they are offered money, funny enough the money is a far cry to the amount of land they are giving away,' he said.

He further encouraged the residents to rather hold on to their land so that it does not end up in the hands of non-citizens because it is Batswana who later complain.'Parents please advise your children to utilise the land they have been given and not sell it,' he said.  Kgosi Gaborone further encouraged residents to work together in fighting crime, saying people should work cooperatively in harmony and love.

'Know your neighbours and befriend them and get along with them because they are the ones who will call for help when they see intruders breaking into your house,' he said.He further encouraged his people to stop littering and report any case of illegal dumping to the police. Kgosi Gaborone said Tlokweng is closer to neighbouring South Africa, so it is the first place that tourists see on their way to Gaborone city and beyond.

'As a result, it is essential to keep Tlokweng clean at all times. Tlokweng has 36,000 people living here, according to the census, but it's surprising and disappointing that only a few have registered so that their rubbish can be collected every week, it means a lot others are involved in illegal waste dumping,' he said.Kgosi Gaborone expressed hope that Dikgosana would first handle petty issues like disputes between residents in dikgotla before they are taken to the Main Kgotla as this is where people are charged according to the gravity of their offences.Lastly he reminded residents of the Tlokweng Cultural Day set for August 17.
