Busy weekend for UB Giants

The students have three weekend fixtures with one being for the women's side, as they make up for postponed fixtures in the opening round of the league.

Their women's side plays log leaders Bears on Sunday morning and will be hard pressed for a win to move up the log. They are presently languishing in the bottom half of the nine-team log. The scholars have struggled this season with their only positive from the season being a 15-5 triumph over Police IX late in November.

Police IX were saved further blushes by the mercy rule as UB Giants dramatically came back to win that particular game at the National Diamond. But Bears should prove a tricky customer for them.

The women's softball giants, Bears, are yet to lose a match this season and would want to end the first round on a high note.

On the contrary, Bears' men have been struggling this season and are at the bottom half of the log table. Giants' men are also not in a very good position on the 12-team log. Both teams will be out to collect the two points to firm up their campaign. Giants will also have a tough one against mid-table rivals Blue Angels late on Sunday afternoon. After the completion of the first round fixtures this weekend, the second round of the league is set to resume next weekend. In other fixtures, Gideon Warriors play second-placed Wells who are breathing heavily on log leaders BDF IX's neck. Wells buried Police IX 5-0 last weekend to maintain pressure on their rivals, BDF.
