Chiefs, GU step up preparations

Both sides have looked to none other than neighbouring South Africa for preparatory matches with the local league currently on a break. Chiefs will be taking on Maxaquene of Mozambique in the CAF Champions League while GU also engage Mozambican side, Liga Muculmana in the CAF Confederations Cup. Chiefs have already played matches against Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs as well as Supersport United.

They lost both matches. They kicked off the tour against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday where they received a 4-0 thrashing from the current ABSA Premiership log leaders.

They played against Supersport United on Wednesday and lost 3-0. Chiefs have been very busy this season as far as the transfer market is concerned as well. After bringing in the likes of Phenyo Mongala and David Makakaba, Chiefs went on to recruit two other experienced campaigners, Amos Godirwang and Jerome Ramatlhakwana.  They are now said to be chasing former Nico United striker, Tendai Ndoro.  GU on the other hand leave today for Pretoria where they have been invited to compete in a one-day tournament tomorrow. The tournament involves three South African sides - Platinum Stars, United FC and University of Pretoria. GU secretary, Herbert Letsebe said the tournament has come at an opportune time since the Premier League schedule is still on hold.  He added that the invitation follows the pre-season friendly they had with University of Pretoria last year. 'After that pre-season we both agreed that we should maintain the relationship. We hope the tournament will help us prepare for the CAF match as well as the league match,' he said.

GU are currently second on the table, just three points behind Chiefs. They hope to close the gap or even zoom to the top after acquiring the services of former Zebras goalkeeper, Kagiso Tshelametsi before the transfer window closed yesterday. Tshelametsi had been inactive for the past few seasons following a career- threatening injury, but returned this season in the colours of Motlakase Power Dynamos. He will compete for the number one jersey with Noah Maposa and Reuben Thakadu.

Letsebe also revealed that speedy winger, Kgololo Leteane and defender, Gobonyeone Selefa have started training following a long lay-off due to injuries. They will be travelling with the rest of the squad to South Africa although they are not expected to play.
