Tonota FC revive flagging fotunes

TONOTA: A vastly improved Tonota FC revived their flagging fortunes in the First Division North League with a convincing 3-1 win over Great North Tigers (GNT) on Saturday. The win improved Tonota's chances of a decent finish in the leage.

Under fire for blatant errors in the early games, the Tonota side oozed class for much of their second game after the Christmas break. The trio of Edgar Seseko, Emmanuel Mogorosi and Thato Motswagole got the goals for Sepondo Se a Debola, while Cosmos Sebona scored a face saver for Edward Leposo's GNT.

In a surprising turn of events, Tonota FC featured a completely new side from the one that did job before the Christmas break. Some players are said to have deserted the club for greener pastures but the new ones on duty on Saturday did not disappoint.

Tonota FC drew first blood through a sensational free-kick by Seseko in the 75th minute. Known for his tricky shots, Seseko stepped up to take a free-kick and did exactly what he did when playing Sua Flamingoes at the same venue a couple of weeks ago. The nimble-footed player

looped the dead ball into the net beyond a despairing lunge by goalkeeper, George Morotsi. In the 80th minute, GNT equalised through the reliable Sebona. The improving striker shrugged off a challenge from his marker and picked the spot before releasing coolly lobbing the advancing Thabo Race in the Tonota goal.

Playing like a wounded buffalos, Tonota FC players launched waves off attack, causing confusion in the GNT rearguard. They got what they deserved when the referee pointed to the spot after one of the GNT players handled in the box. Mogorosi converted the spot kick. In the referee's optional time, Tonota FC found the third goal through the experienced boot of Motswagole. However, GNT could have pulled one back through Sebona but the goal was disallowed for an offside.
