TAFIC try out West African trio

The trio who began trials at the club last Tuesday reportedly hail from Nigeria, Cameroon and Ivory Coast. The players from Cameroon and Ivory Coast are midfielders while the player from Nigeria plays upfront.

In a bid to help the club end the current campaign in a respectable position, TAFIC coach Dominic Changwe is eager to sign the West Africans until the reminder of the season.

'The coach is eager to sign the three players in a bid to fill the void left by mid-fielder Tafadzwa Maingire and striker Audience Rundofa.  'The coach needs experience in the team. That is why he is eager to bring the three players on board,' said the source.

Although not much information has been availed about the foreign players, the three players are reportedly free agents. It is not yet clear who invited the players for the trials, but reports reaching Mmegi Sport suggest that the trials were facilitated by a local agent.

Even TAFIC mentor Changwe said yesterday that he was not aware of the person who has brought the players at the club.

'I think someone from the team management or a local agent facilitated the trials. 'I am however eager to bring them on board so that they add experience to the club. Signing them will however depend on the funds being availed by the club, 'Changwe said.

Despite Changwe's interest in bringing the three players on board, the move may not materialise due to cash constraints. TAFIC has been in financial doldrums in the past three months, which resulted in players getting their dues late.  The club's failure to fulfil its financial obligations to players is said to have precipitated the departure of Maingire and Rundofa to Lobatse side BMC. TAFIC public relations officer (PRO) Dubani Dubani stated that the club was still assessing the three players.

'Once the technical team is impressed with their performance negotiations will open.

'You will have to realise that we lost some of our experienced players (Rundofa and Maingire) during the January transfer window so we want to replace them,' he disclosed. He would not disclose the duration of the trial.
