BR advertises CEO post as Lunga's term nears end

An advertisement for Lunga's post is currently running in the media.
'It's true he will not renew his contact when it expires. The post is being advertised so that the one who will take over may start while Lunga is still here,' Masenya told Mmegi.
'There is a lot currently going on here,' she added, referring to BR's re-branding and turnaround strategy. 'The plan is to have the new CEO take over before Lunga leaves.'

In related developments, Masenya said BR is still waiting for funding to introduce a revamped day passenger train.

'At the moment, we await decisions on the funding for the renewal of our passenger coaches. We will make an announcement after consultations are finalised.'
Masenya said the BR Turnaround Strategy, which was approved by the board in September 2006, seeks to reorganise the structures and business processes of Botswana Railways.

'Certain projects have already kicked off.
One project, the upgrading of our signalling and telecommunications infrastructure, is nearing completion. We plan to have it completed by the end of the year.'
A more ambitious part of the strategy involves the establishment of new linkages between Mosetse and Kazungula in the Chobe District, Mmamabule and Elisras in South Africa's Limpopo Province and a Trans-Kalahari rail route to Namibia.

BR is in discussions with CIC Energy - a key investor in the Mmamabule Power Project - for build a branch line from the mainline to the proposed Mmamabule Plant.
BR and the National Railways of Zimbabwe reintroduced the popular passenger service train between Gaborone and Bulawayo in June last year
