Send Zvayi the hatemonger back to Zim
| Wednesday August 6, 2008 00:00
In case you didn't know, Zvayi was Political Editor at the state daily, The Herald which, as you might suspect, has become the ZANU-PF mouthpiece in recent years. Zvayi oversaw the character assassination and hate mongering there. He authored countless articles spreading his message of hate and death to the opposition. He made a point to praise Mugabe in EVERY one of those articles.
Now, here is my point: If Zvayi thinks Mugabe is such a hot Pan-Africanist liberator, what is he doing at UB? Should he be reaping the bountiful fruits of Mugabe's 100 percent black empowerment which have turned our country into the laughing stock of the world in a short 10 years?
Botswana, which claims to be a model of democracy and good governace in our region must be seen to be on the right side of this potential diplomatic powderkeg. If the fate of the hatemongers and human rights abusers from Rwanda to Serbia is anything to go by, Zvayi and Mugabe will be part of a contingent to the ICC at The Hague on trial for hatemongering and crimes against humanity. Karadzic hid for 10 years, but today he is at The Hague and when all the legal tricks are done, he will go to jail for the people he killed, or ordered to be killed. The same is true of Mugabe and his acolytes. I am not asking for a lot, but for Botswana to actually give Zvayi sanctuary at this time, is the height of treachery. My simple request is that you use your public medium to expose this hatemonger and human rights abuser in your midst. In any event, what positive thing can young Batswana students learn from a hatemonger? You don't want little Zvayis there a few years from now, do you?
For the record, we will not stop this campaign until UB cuts Zvayi's contract short and sends him back to Harare to do more praise-singing for Mugabe, his hero. If action is not taken, it is Botswana and its institutions whose images will suffer greatly. This is only the beginning.
