RPC Data Clinches IT Contract With Kenyan Govt

The tender process involved presentations of the solution and reference site visits to other clients and users in Botswana.

'This project is an important foreign exchange earner for Botswana and will add to the already forecast export earnings for RPC Data of over 1.5 million US dollars,' says Nwako.
'It will have the combined benefit of exposing the company and its staff to more complex and diverse technical expectations and of marketing Botswana as a brand through a company that is majority-owned and run by Batswana in this highly competitive industry.'
The contract was signed by Nwako and Mutua Kilaka, Financial Secretary in Kenya's Ministry of Finance, in Nairobi on June 22.

RPC Data Sales Manager Komal Rao, Consulting Division Manager Meyyappan Venkatachalam, and a senior technical consultant were in Nairobi last week to kick-start the project that will increase the footprint of the Gaborone-based public company.
Anne Mugo, Kenya's Secretary/Director of Pensions, is heading the year-long project which comprises analysis, development and implementation.

 
RPC Data will then remain under contract to support the system for a further three years under warranty and a service level agreement.
In 2004, RPC Data implemented a payroll and pensions system that is fully integrated with the Government Accounting and Budgeting System (GABS) in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

 
The experience gained in this and other similar projects in Botswana vastly increased the company's experience in public sector systems.
Nwako says it is through the up-skill of its growing consulting division that has more than 40 staff, that RPC Data will achieve its goal of providing regional expertise. He says that the successful conclusion of this bid is the result of determined efforts by the company to diversify its revenue streams into export markets.

When the Kenyan contract is completed, the new system will provide information for monitoring the department's cash position, a workflow management system to ease supervision, and the management of pension administration.

 
It will facilitate the preparation of financial statements and budgeting, analysis, financial control and compliance audit, as well as ensure that senior citizens and their legal dependants are paid efficiently.

 
The system will also reduce the time to process pension payments and reduce the current backlog of claims. It will provide online, instant data validation and help to improve both staff job satisfaction and customer service.
RPC runs subsidiary companies in Zambia and Uganda and a development centre in India.
