Flood alert

In light of these prospects, the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) would like to warn members of the public about inherent dangers of flash floods.

We would also like to emphasise that forecasts are not precise predictions and hence the need for the public to be vigilant at all times.

Members of the public must be vigilant and assess the risks to which they may be exposed and contact the nearest police stations in the event of imminent danger.

In particular the public is advised:
* Never to attempt to cross flooded rivers.
* Motorists should not risk driving through flooded rivers or through large bodies of water, whose depth cannot be determined.

* To take particular note of the vulnerable groups such as the young and aged in the event evacuation becomes necessary.

The NDMO is continuing to monitor the situation in the country and stresses the importance of the cooperation of the public to avoid or minimize the adverse impact of the heavy rains. Every endeavor will be made by the NDMO to extend assistance to those who may need it in the quickest time possible. Emergencies: call 3950975
