Gunners clear confusion over PRO position

The man touted as Gunners' spokesman has been Kitso Dlamini but Dada's comeback has confused matters. Dlamini has told Mmegi Sport that at Gunners, they do not have a public relations officer. He explained that the club spokesman works under the communications and marketing department. 'In our constitution, there is nothing like PRO. We have the communications and marketing department where me and Dada work,' Dlamini said.

He clarified that Dada serves as communications manager while he (Dlamini) is the marketing manager and they complement each other. He advised supporters not to be confused by the state of affairs. Dada has previously served Gunners as PRO in the early 1990s.

Though Dlamini said the Gunners' management decided to rope-in Dada just to complement him, information reaching Mmegi Sport is that he was brought in to fast track the sponsorship deal with Choppies chain of supermarkets. Dada is a manager at Choppies. 'Dada has been our official for a long time before and this made it easy for him to come back following our request,' said Dlamini. He said he is the one who suggested Dada's recommendation and he is happy to get support from the management.

Despite being one of the giants in Botswana football, Gunners is struggling to get a sponsor. The failure to secure sponsorship has negatively affected performance and the club has now become perennial relegation candidates.

Meanwhile, Dlamini said they are still searching for a new coach after Clever Hunda unexpectedly resigned citing lack of support from management. The Zimbabwean coach accused his employers of failing to buy quality strikers. 'We are looking for a coach who will turn Gunners into a powerhouse that it used to be,' said Dlamini. He denied reports that they are in talks with ECCO City Greens' mentor Barry Daka or Stanley Mwaanga of Prisons X1. The Gunners' official said they are yet to conduct interviews. He pointed out the decision as who they would hire as coach would be taken today.
