What does an Occupational Therapist (OT) do?

Occupational Therapy is one of the scarce health allied professions in Botswana. Every time someone asks me what I do, I am always certain that either of this questions or comments will follow: “It’s my first time to hear that”, “What is that”? Interestingly this lack of awareness is not among the general public only but also in the health fraternity.

To understand what occupational therapists do, you must know the concept of occupational therapy. Occupational therapy aims to restore or improve participation in meaningful occupations where there was disruption.

Meaningful occupations are activities people do every day that are purposeful to them and contribute towards their improved health, quality of life and a sense of wellbeing.
