Quality guaranteed: IDM now has the highly sought after ISO 9001 certification

The Institute of Development Management (IDM) on Friday celebrated yet another milestone after the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) awarded the organisation with the ISO 9001 quality assurance certification.

Speaking at a lavish ceremony held at the IDM campus in Gaborone, director of academic services, Bakani Thoothe, explained that the certification is a credential that validates the institution’s ideals of quality assurance to its customers and stakeholders as defined by the international standard organisations.

“The decision by IDM to be ISO certified means we are vigorously pursuing quality education and training.

“We are pledging quality education. “This is an objective proof to ourselves and we want to convince our clients that customer satisfaction is at the core of our business,” he said.

For his part IDM country director for Botswana, Dr Theophilus Mooko expanded on Thoothe’s sentiments.

“This was not a mandatory exercise,” he said. “You choose to subject yourself to this process. “We made this decision so as to monitor our strategy. “We want to nurture and maintain a culture of quality in this institution and we shall remain committed to the fulfilment of the ideals for which this institution has been established.”

In his keynote address, IDM regional director and CEO, Shamukelo Lushaba said through the certification, IDM Botswana is making a bold declaration that they are committed to customer satisfaction before profits.

“Standards remain vital in the global market space. “They ensure quality and accountability. “They are a safety net for consumers. “This will improve our service offering and improve institutional operations. “It will also improve our service offering towards greater customer satisfaction and this speaks to our strategy as an institution,” he said.

BOBS director of commercial enterprises, Keeper Morgan revealed that IDM was the 44th institution to be accredited by BOBS under the ISO family.

“IDM applied for certification, and we performed the two stages audits necessary for one to determine whether an organisation is ready to be accepted in the ISO 9001 family.

“The results did confirm that IDM met the requirements of the ISO 9001 quality systems and hence the certification today,” he said.

Morgan further encouraged other institutions to comply with international standards and reach out to them for the quality management programme.
