PrimeTime transitions to clean energy

The Botswana Stock Exchange listed company, PrimeTime Property, has moved ahead of its peers in the green building technology following the commencement of the installation of its first Solar PV Project at the Sebele Centre property.

It is expected that the innovation will benefit the property outfit’s unit holders financially while also delivering on its drive to provide sustainable power to tenants.

It is estimated the system will have a 120,000 kWh monthly output. The system has a peak solar capacity of 890kWp, which should supply over 40% of the estimated average monthly consumption.

PrimeTime’s board member, Paul Masie said they remain steadfast in their drive to integrate sustainability considerations into their strategy and operations going forward.

“The installation of our first Solar PV Project is a move to transition to clean energy, reduce our reliance on generators and potentially lower occupancy costs,” Masie said in a commentary on the company’s 2022 Annual Report. “We aim to follow measurable recognised green building standards on all new developments to ensure that our commitment to sustainable buildings is demonstrable.” According to the group, its Prime Plaza II development received a five-star green design rating, which they believe demonstrates their commitment to incorporating green building technologies into their portfolio. “PrimeTime is pioneering the introduction of green leases into the rental market, which will commence with Prime Plaza II currently under development. This will ensure that PrimeTime’s green values are carried through by tenants’ interaction with our buildings,” he said.

Data available shows that a green lease, at its bare minimum, creates a platform for monitoring the tenant’s carbon footprint in relation to their energy consumption; the tenant’s potable water consumption against targets set in the lease; and the tenant’s waste generation and recycling patterns.

PrimeTime has also introduced and endorsed initiatives to reduce the consumption of electricity, water and reduce waste. Smart metres are fitted at new properties and have been retrofitted at some of the older properties, for both electricity and water.
