Standard Chartered Bank Botswana, in collaboration with SOS Children’s Village Botswana, celebrated the successful completion of the Collective Communities Project under the Futuremakers initiative.

The event marked the launch of two key facilities aimed at promoting economic empowerment, namely, a business centre in Tlokweng and a horticultural farm at Ruretse. The National Director of SOS Children’s Village Botswana, Motshwari Kitso, welcomed the initiative’s impact on the local communities. “The Collective Communities Project is a remarkable achievement that will provide ongoing support to vulnerable groups, particularly young people. The business centre and horticultural farm are designed to help individuals build sustainable livelihoods, which is essential for their long-term growth and success,” he noted. The Tlokweng business centre is equipped to offer training and business development services for budding entrepreneurs. On the other hand, the Ruretse horticultural farm will serve as a hub for agricultural skills training and employment opportunities. Beneficiaries of the project expressed their gratitude for the life-changing support they got. One of the beneficiaries of the business centre, Gotlhe Keolatile, explained that through the training and mentorship provided at the business centre, “I’ve gained the confidence and skills needed to start my own small business. This opportunity has truly empowered me, and I look forward to growing my venture with the resources made available,” Keolatile said.

Tsholofetso Makau, from Gakuto, also said the farm has opened up new opportunities, adding, “I’ve learnt valuable skills that I can now use to improve my livelihood, and I’m proud to be part of a project that will benefit the community for years to come.” A representative of Standard Chartered Bank Botswana, Bamo Moremong, said the Futuremakers initiative by the bank is their global programme designed to empower young people by supporting their education, employability, and entrepreneurship. “Through this project, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also building long-term resilience for communities. The facilities we are launching today are a testament to our commitment to creating sustainable impact,” Moremong said. The Collective Communities Project aligns with Standard Chartered’s goal of fostering economic inclusion and supporting vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on youth empowerment. By providing access to both education and practical skills, the initiative seeks to close the gap on inequality and drive economic growth within communities.
