In what promises to be one of the most interesting music shows during the 2022 festive period pitting artistes of different generations against each other, Lizibo and Indingo Johwa will battle it out during a festival organised by Ikalanga Festival.

Billed for December 26, the Lizibo vs Indingo Johwa festival is meant to celebrate the Ikalanga culture. The show has already caught remarkable attention on social media since it was first advertised a few days ago, mainly because of the calibre of the artistes involved.

Born generations apart, the two artistes have become household names in the music industry and probably became torchbearers of the Ikalanga tribe in matters of music.

In an interview with Arts & Culture, talented Afro Pop singer Lizibo described the festival as “a musical battle of generations”. “There is nothing as beautiful and magical as two generations collaborating to create musical magic.

This show is all about bringing two generations together under one room; it's about showing that the older and more experienced artistes can still give us the younger folks a run for our money,” said Lizibo. Lizibo explained that the much-publicised show is also about learning from each other’s experiences for the purposes of improving their crafts.

“It's about bringing together talents, music, food and great story telling all under one atmosphere from artistes who have the same passion and fire to see their mother tongue blossom. Lizibo also said he has always been a fan of Neswibo (as he has affectionately referred to him by his totem) music for as long as he could remember and because of that, it has always been a dream that one day they could have their own show.

“Yes, I have had an opportunity to share a stage with him three years ago but I strongly felt that it was not enough. We could give both our fans an out of this world musical experience. You would recall that I have also been blessed to have collaborated with him on Amalolilwe, Ikalanga folk song from my Malebeswa album,” he added. Lizibo said fans should expect a beautiful display of talent on the day and promised that the show will not be like any other. He explained that the artistes would be battling through song and performance with both their bands sharing the same stage. “This is to say after one artist finishes a song the other immediately starts their song.

Better put; 're ta a bo re arabisana ka moopelo' similar to what we see at hip hop music battles.” Lizibo explained that they decided to start preparations early so that they do not leave anything to chance because of the uniqueness of the concert.

He explained that this will also give their patrons an opportunity to buy their tickets on time and those who require saving up for them, then they can start that while there is still enough time. Although the festival will be a battle between Lizibo and Ndingo Johwa, he indicated that they would engage other supporting acts who will be revealed in due course. To build up the hype towards this festival, Lizibo revealed that they are currently working on a song to be released during the course of the year.

Be careful on the road this festive season

Over the past weekend in Greater Gaborone, four people tragically lost their lives in separate accidents, a stark reminder of how vulnerable we are on the roads, especially during this busy time of year. The accidents, which claimed the lives of three pedestrians and one driver, paint a grim picture of the dangers faced by everyone on the road, not just motorists but also pedestrians. In one case, a young man was fatally struck by a truck whilst...
