Music & Beef festival will be at the centre of festivities during the inaugural Lobatse Sports Fest scheduled from July 15- 18 in Lobatse.

With Lobatse set to turn into a haven for activities during the Lobatse Sports Fest, which features Botswana Football Association (BFA) affiliate teams and social ones, karate, motorsport, marathon, traditional games and cheerleading activities. Local music artistes will also have a chance to showcase their talent at the four-day event.

According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the event is meant to showcase the best of Lobatse’s talent offering and promoting the town as a destination of choice.

The LOC’s marketing manager, Pule ‘PMag’ Magashula said the music Beer & Beef festival would anchor the event dominated by sports activities.

The music show will be held on July 16 with the Beer 7 Beef Fest set to be held the following day on Sunday.

“The music show will precede the 5km night run to be held on the same day. The show will be held exactly at the finishing point of the fun run. There will be a whole lot of entertainment by local artistes,” said Magashula.

Magashula further said the Beer 7 Beef Fest will provide a relaxed and chilled kind of event the next day to celebrate Lobatse as the country’s beef town being the home to Botswana Meat Commission (BMC).

He said the idea is to give local artistes a chance during the event to shine, but funds permitting, they will mix it with international artistes to increase audience attendance.

Magashula said further details of the music show and the Beer & Beef festival will be shared at a later stage.

Omphemetse Mmolai, who is the LOC programmes manager, said Lobatse has been branded a ghost town for a long time, but that will change once the Lobatse Sports Fest takes off.

“Lobatse has become a forgotten town with riches, and those riches are the artistic talents that we have. This will be a spectacular event,” she said.
