Butler is in Botswana for a performance during an event dubbed Afro Jazz 2023 Live with Jonathan Butler scheduled for March 4 (Saturday) at Molapo Showcase.
The event, which also features another South African heavyweight, Lloyiso and locals Sereetsi and the Natives and Khoisan, is organised by local Communications and PR agency, Leapfrog.
Speaking during a press conference Thursday evening, Butler said he is always available to discuss possible collaborations with any interested local artists.
“Because I love music, I’m always available. If you love music make yourself available. If you make music, it will take you some places. So, for artists who are here or those that I’m going to meet on Saturday, sometimes collaboration can happen in the dressing room before stage. Artists talk to each other all the time, so if you are in a space where you are generous with your time, they are always welcome to join me on stage,” Butler said.
He said music is not about the competition but is a language that transcends everything.
He said as an established artist, he believes he has a duty to be generous and give back to the community by sharing his experience with other developing artists. He said being generous and availing himself, it is an opportunity to inspire someone out there. Local artists have always found collaboration opportunities with international artists very limited.
