Chef Gustos, born Thato Modukanele, is surely a man over the moon following a successful 2023. From being the most nominated artist for the Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs), hitting a million views on YouTube with his song Away, the talented musician has now released an album dubbed, ‘Expensive Music’. And to cap it off, the talented producer and DJ was on Tuesday named among the BOMU Awards nominees for this year’s edition.

The Away hitmaker has always stated that he wants to spread his wings and reach the pinnacle point in his music career. He has always emphasised that his achievements can never be enough as he wants to become a renowned artist. In an interview with Arts&Culture following the release of his album, Chef Gustos credited his successful 2023 to God. “This shows how incredible and amazing God is and I am a walking testimony of that. “However, I am far away from my prime or even my ultimate dream and this can be seen from the amount of work I put in,” Chef Gustos said excitedly. The Expensive Music album has seven songs that feature a lot of young talents who are trying to penetrate the music industry. In the album, he features upcoming talents like Thato Tladi and Lera.

Commenting on working with these youngsters on his album, he stated that he was amazed at how these rookies performed and exceeded his expectations. Chef Gustos said this has made him realise the abundant talent in the country. “I am used to working with a lot of talents, but this was a different one. I have real angels in that masterpiece and these guys are out of this world they gave me exactly what I needed, which is ‘Expensive Music’. I want to work with these talented individuals so that they blossom and be the next big things in the music fraternity,” he said. Chef Gustos echoed that he is impressed with how the album has been received thus far. “I am super happy with how the album is doing because I have managed to tick a few boxes. I have launched the album successfully, my family and fans are happy with the work that I have produced and the streams to the album are really looking nice and even views on the video of the single with Noxiekay are impressive,” Chef Gustos added.

Asked which song from the album could be a hit, Chef Gustos said it is hard to choose one as he is spoiled for choice. “I love every single song in there because initially, I made a lot of songs but only seven made it to the album and those seven were my favourite because they are what I wanted,” he said. Despite making the most with 2023, he said he is not yet done as people should be on the lookout for more projects from him.
