CYC Jouzy tells tale of adversity, hope

PALAPYE: The music scene is aptly called the dog-eat-dog industry and young rapper, Thebe Kegomoditswe, also known as CYC Jouzy is a testimony to that.

The 18-year-old artist from Distance Ward in Selebi-Phikwe has spent his formative years in Palapye. He told Showbiz in an interview that ever since he decided to join the industry, it has been an uphill battle for him. "I have only known struggle in my life. People don't appreciate the efforts of young and upcoming artists like me," he said.CYC Jouzy said that luckily for him and his group God's Gang, they would at times get slots to perform in their respective churches.The group is made up of four young artists who grew up in Palapye namely Leatile 'Fixion Peter' Kgomela, Odirile 'B-Parkh' Gabanapelo, Thulani 'Main Man' and CYC Jouzy.

"All four of us are talented Christian rap artists from different churches and we are struggling to have that major breakthrough that we believe we deserve," said the artist who also acts as the group's spokeperson.He said while his fellow rappers have already raised funds for the production of the group's envisage single and video, he has to find a temporary job to raise his end of the funds for the project."Currently I am the only one who hasn't come up with my contribution. I decided to work at my aunt's company to raise the necessary funds for the project," he said adding that as soon as they have raised the money, they will start the recording.
