Even with the hit Phendula, which was arguably one of the biggest songs to come from this country in recent years, it felt not enough as he could not get the big break he longed for.
He was not attached to any record label, but he took the decision to agree to Masker KG’s proposal to join him. The deal with Wanitwa Mos Entertainment is a full-package contract that entails artist management, PR/Marketing and recording.
But just a few months since he signed with the South African record label, DJ KSB is thrilled that it is one of the best decisions in his career. He says the move has impacted positively his brand.
“There has been a big difference to my brand. Being associated with the name Wanitwa Mos Entertainment has brought a new look to my brand because people now feel the need to go through my music and also check my availability for bookings because they now feel my relevance and worth,” DJ KSB said.
DJ KSB says he believes his move to Wanitwa Mos Entertainment is a blessing as it has earned him the traction that he always yearned for. “Now that I have signed with Wanitwa Mos, people are now triggered to work with me because they feel the pressure and the weight that I carry because I am not just DJ KSB anymore but DJ KSB from Wanitwa Mos Entertainment a company headed by a global icon. My brand image has elevated and my numbers in Spotify are really moving faster than ever before,” he added.
In addition, DJ KSB said it has been a surreal experience for him at the South African record label. He says he has been exposed to so much knowledge as he now interacts with several talented big-name artists who are signed under the stable. “The company has different artists and producers, so I got to learn a lot as an artist and producer. And now I can confidently say my sound has improved as compared to when I was an independent artist. This has been a great experience for me,” DJ KSB echoed.
Having worked with international artists since joining Wanitwa Mos Entertainment, DJ KSB says he has realised that Batswana artists do not work hard enough compared to their South African counterparts.
“SA artists work with the knowledge that what they are doing in the studio has to be strong and powerful enough to shake the world and they don’t limit themselves because their country has many opportunities. Any day an artist can drop a song and then blow it up to an international level or even global scale. Meanwhile, in Botswana, I think there are few artists that have it in themselves to do that but the majority do not have that and I am talking from experience,” he said.
He also said the lack of resources also plays a part and hinders many local artists from thriving compared to their South African counterparts who enjoy so much support.
