Fredrick Khutsafalo, whose stage name is DJ Ricque, recently released an Amapiano song dubbed Wenzani.

The 31-year-old aspiring producer and DJ, said he features vocalists, Bullet Proof and 2Jay. He said both he and Bullet Proof wrote the song. He explained that the track was inspired by the experiences people had when they were with their loved ones at parties or clubs hence Wenzani which simply means “what are you doing”. He added that it relates to the bad habits of a girl who keeps doing unnecessary things that could hurt their partner.

“The single was produced in Kopong at Beat Factory Studios in March this year. I started my music career in 2008. After COVID-19 I had a break down, and then dropped my other single this year to continue pushing my career and passion for music. I have always faced the challenges of marketing my music on radio platforms as I did not have a manager,” he said. Speaking of his challenges, he pointed out lack of funds to improve his studio and get the right quality. He said he had to use other producers' studios to finish his projects. He added that getting bookings have always been a problem unless if he had someone closer to the organisers.

However, he said his first ever achievement was hearing his first single play on radio and being given the title of the best song from upcoming artists in 2014. “My advice to other artists is that they should believe in their art before anyone else because that faith is the only thing that can keep them going. I believe that they should use the negative energy and feedback they get from fans to help them uplift their craft because that has always worked for me,” he ended.
