With a habit of no shows and turning up late for performances, things backfired for popular South African musician Makhadzi when a crowd of revellers at Gaabo Motho Music Festival in Moshupa gave her a cold shoulder on Christmas morning.

Makhadzi who is now in trouble with the law due to her non appearances arrived on stage around 6AM. The matorokisi hitmaker was supposed to perform at 0340am, but she was nowhere to be found. When she arrived she headed straight for the stage as people were waiting for local artist Dr Vom to wrap up the show in style.

People had their sticks ready and tree branches in the air eagerly waiting to join Dr Vom and sing along to his classic hit Thobane. But the sudden appearance of Makhadzi on the stage got in the way of that. As she got nearer to the stage some people started throwing cans to the stage. Most of them made hands gestures to show that they don't want her. Makhadzi got the message fast and retreated back as she continued with her performance. For the rest of the performance she didn't get closer to the fans like she usually does.

One could mistake the people's lack of interest as a sign that they were tired after partying all night. Not at all, right after Makhadzi Dr Vom hit the stage and all of a sudden the crowd was alive again. They had finally got what they wanted in Dr Vom. Makhadzi's acrobatic dance moves didn't excite them and all it took was a man with a stick.

Their lordships are yoked with the...
