A tantalising atmosphere characterised this year’s edition of the Gaborone International Music & Culture Week (GIMC) Jazz festival.

During the event, local and international artists serenaded audiences in a memorable occasion on Saturday night.

The event was held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) at the Grand Palm Resort in Gaborone. The first act on the day was Dato Seiko, who performed as if she had a point to prove. The talented singer was in her element, warming up the stage nicely for performances that were to follow. For an opener, she really set the tempo higher that one could be excused for thinking that the show was about to finish. Next up on stage was Bakang Lenyaola. Known for his song Emisa Corona, the talented performer did not disappoint as he also serenaded the audiences.

He did his best to also maintain the tempo set by Dato Seiko. Fifi Afrika later took the baton from Bakang Lenyaola, and she offered beautiful renditions much to the appreciation of the crowd. Another local talent, Samantha Mogwe demonstrated why she is considered one of the best vocalists around.

Her performance was full of energy and enthusiasm. Some of the songs that Samantha Mogwe performed include You featuring the late Sasa Klaas, Transition and Beautiful. She put in one of the best performances of the night. South African jazz and Afro-pop singer Judith Sephuma was next up on stage.

As the headliner, she immediately grabbed the attention of everyone inside the venue when she entered the stage with one of her classic songs Mmangwane. The crowd immediately joined in to sing along with her. It was clear that the majority of the people were waiting for her set.

Judith Sephuma kept the house alive, playing both her jazz melodies as well gospel songs. Some of the songs that she performed on the night include Mme Motswadi, Tlo moya o galalelang and Naa ke bomang. Despite performing after a big name in Judth Sephuma, local talent Mpho Sebina also held her own with a powerful performance. It was as if she wanted to justify her inclusion in the line-up. She really showed why she is regarded as one of the top upcoming talents. Sereetsi & The Natives also did not disappoint.

They gave a good show, leaving the crowd asking for more. In general, the GIMC jazz festival provided a memorable night of soothing music for the patrons.
