As they embark on a drive to donate notebooks to various schools in Lobatse and surroundings, organisers of the Bandleng Kiddies Fest & Family Fun Day will host an event on April 13, at the Lobatse Town Park.

The event will be headlined by Botswana’s most decorated musician, Vee Mampeezy. One of the event organisers, Mpheme Mmolai of Lobatse Online Radio, recently told the media that Bandleng Kiddies fest has a community social responsibility to assist in whatever capacity possible.

Mmolai said they will plead with all stakeholders to donate notebooks to various schools in Lobatse. Everyone who cherishes the importance of education in their child’s life should take part in the event, said Mmolai. “It takes a community to raise a child. Where the government can’t reach, we should be able to help.

We realised that Lobatse is an entertainment hub and a town of firsts and this time we decided to host a unique event for children and adults,” she highlighted. On other issues, Mmolai commended everyone from sponsors to social clubs for supporting the event. Mmolai pointed out that there was growth in the second edition because the event managed to bridge the gap in the relationship between parents and their children. She said what they encourage at Bandleng Kiddies fest is to nurture the friendship between parents and their children and for the latter to be able to play and learn.

For his part, Obakeng Ditlhobolo said the event will encourage all stakeholders from churches to social clubs to help donate books. “It’s not about entertainment, it is also about edutainment. We are not just helping government but we are assisting parents because we don’t want a situation where they will be required to buy books in the future,” he said.

Ditlhobolo also said they will feature family competitions as they strengthen the bond between children and their parents. He said the aim is to collect about 2, 000 books, which will be donated to schools. Children aged between three and 12 will pay P40 at the gate. The tickets for 13 years and older costs P40 and tickets holders are required to bring a 288 paged book. If ticket holders do not bring notebooks they will be required to pay P60.

Organised by Vision Link, Bandleng Kiddies fest started last year where two events were held in April and November. Clover is the main sponsor of the event.
