One of the popular women of Jazz, Kearoma Rantao together with her mother and daughter mesmerised the audience when they shared an intimate moment and sang their new songs during their new EP listening session in Gaborone yesterday.
In an interview with Showtime, Kearoma explained that her new EP dubbed Ina Sebe was produced by Africa Meropa Records in her own studio called Africa Meropa Studios."I decided to launch the EP on Mother's Day because it is a production by me as a mother, with my own mother, Josephine Rantao, and my daughter, Thuto Rantao. It has some relevance with the whole motherhood concept.
The EP has seven tracks which includes Botshelo, which was released earlier in March.
“It is different from my other work because it is produced in my own studio and it is the first time I am collaborating with my mother and daughter. You do not see much of that these days," she explained. Furthermore, Kearoma pointed out that this year marked her 25th year as a musician.
She further explained that there had been a lot that she picked in her music career, good and bad, which motivated her to open her own studio. She said the studio was not only a recording studio but it was also a platform for others including herself to learn, explore and expand parameters in music.
"Music was first introduced to me by my mother, Mma Rantao. When I was a child, I used to listen to my mother singing and then I would try to emulate her high notes. Little did I know that one day, I would also have one of my daughters emulating me. Every single aspect of this EP and its packaging symbolises, the impact a mother has on her children.
From the artwork on the packaging that was sketched out by my daughter Thuto, to the special songs that featured my mother and her. To the support that I have also received from my other daughter Bosa, while I spent hours in the studio. There could not have been a better day than Mother's Day to launch this EP," she ended.
While the political shift brings hope for change, it also places immense pressure on the new administration to deliver on its election promises in the face of serious economic challenges. On another level, newly appointed Finance Minister Ndaba Gaolathe’s grim assessment of the country’s finances adds urgency to the moment.
