Makau to come back after a lull

Once popular group, Makau, have vowed once again that this is their comeback year. The group this week teased with their up coming single, which is a new twist from their usual offerings, titled “Mr DJ”.

The trio of Tiro Thebe, Bakang Mphele and Leo Malomo with their trademark nerd glasses, custom made clothes were once the darlings of many with their debut single and title track Sebinjolo. Their fame was however to dim over the years as they failed to match the Sebinjolo hype with their subsequent songs.

In 2012, they released their second album titled Ditseno tse tharo. Although they had anticipated that the eight-track album would spin their career back to the top, it failed. Still in a bid to ‘comeback’ last year, the boys changed their style. Originally Mosakaso singers, they tried to shift to house, jazz and surprisingly even hip-hop, but they still did not come close to Sebinjolo. Yesterday one of the group members, Molomo admitted, “we did not manage to penetrate the market as well as we did with our first offering (Sebinjolo). I think that was because we followed the same old style we did with the album and it got monotonous.” Molomo said with the coming album they intend on releasing this year, it will have a different feel. “We intent to name the album, Classic 1990, simply because we were all (the group members) born in that year. The album will be more house-like but fused with our original tone, of course. We took this bold step simply to keep up with the times and the trends in the industry.”
