Trashion Show is the garbage fashion show where aspiring beauty queens showcase their designing, innovative and creative skills.
The event featured the fashion of recycled material designs and ramp walking by contestants to promote waste material recycling, creative thinking and problem solving.
Some of the beautiful contestants who made beautiful trash constumes included Angela Selato with a beautiful dress made with a combination of colourful plastics and used empty milk box as a ribbon; Marang Moapare with a colourful dress made with plastics, neckpiece, hand band and a beautiful hat; Katlego Matheakgomo with a colourless plastic decorated with bulbs and milk boxes and Kgarebe Champi with a dress made from newspapers and red Coca-cola disposable cups. Mpho Nfazo also proved to have what it takes with her immense talent. From little Miss Hope, You You and Amantle Pheto proved to be walking in the right direction as they entertained revellers with their bubbly performances.
The trashion parade was later followed by a talent show where aspiring queens shared their talent with the revellers.
They sang, danced and even recited poems that were raising awareness on things happening in either their lives or in the world. Some of the brilliant talent shows were by Selato who portrayed a role of a female soldier dedicated to keep citizens safe showcasing the strength of a woman; Reneilwe Legae who showcased three different kinds of dance moves, Matheakgomo who shared her journey as a person that lives with epilepsy through contemporary dance and Ontiretse Mbaya with a poem on GBV.
Upcoming fashion designers were also given an opportunity to showcase their talent. Even though their mandate was to design gorgeous outfits using litter, some did otherwise. Designers that took part in the show include Lorato Diseko whose brand name is Lora Ditt, Constance Lizzy Boaki, Olorato Charles of Amil Creations, Lydia Olie of Preacher Bae Creations, Lesogo Mokgwa, Hazel Gareobone and Livicia Visagie. However, Olie whose designs were breathtaking, scooped the price and walked away with Andasonia Hotel two nights voucher as a token of appreciation. It includes food and transportation. All the six other designers will be given token of appreciation vouchers worth P150 and will be given discounts when they buy fabrics at Timba.
The contestants also had to pick a piece of paper written one of the refuse materials seen around and asked to sell it to potential clients in a way that could convince people to buy. It was a bit hectic for many as most of the materials they chose were a surprise. Some did the marketing naturally.
The marks from the show would be added to the contestants’ final marks and they will be given their talent awards at the grand finale.
