On Friday evening, a number of kwaito music fans went to the Gaborone Avani Resort and Casino to witness performances of two South African artists, Sea Bee and the king of kwaito, Mafokate. The latter made a grand entrance into the stage with his high spirited female dancers giving the audience a splendid performance but a few minutes later, his songs stopped playing as it appeared the playing system experienced some technical glitches. Not wanting to disappoint his fans, he kept on engaging them while the DJ who is his daughter, tried to fix the problem. She later managed to fix it and played more songs but the technical glitch kept coming back. The disappointment in Mafokate's face could not be missed but he kept a calm face and continued engaging the audience and later after a struggle, he managed to continue performing. Despite the challenges, he and his team faced, he was professional enough to keep his head up and gave his fans value for their money. Prior to that, he had to go off stage as it was rumoured that his memory stick format was rejected by the system. People had to wait for more than an hour while the DJs kept them intrigued with the classic kwaito and house beats taking them back to their youthful days.
The event attracted a number of older communities being 60s, 70s and 80s generations. Even though Sea Bee is not that famous in Botswana, many know his song 'Home boy' while Makokate remains the most popular and loved artist in the country. During Sea Bee's performance, it was evident that many people did not know most of his songs. Those who did were excited and sang along with him. However, those who decided to watch made comments that they were not sure whether he was the real Sea Bee because in the middle of his performances, he appeared lost and seemed like he forgot his own lyrics. Some of the fans, however, understood that maybe it was because of old age. Luckily for him, he was saved by one of his dancers who did most of the singing. Apart from that, everyone was happy especially because there are only a few events that cater for senior citizens locally. Peace and tranquillity reigned at the event as revellers enjoyed beautiful classics from local artists who also did their best to keep them captivated. The DJs who brought life to the event include DJ Lamatar, Bishop D-Block King, DJ Ngwazi and DJ Geespeezy while the hosts were Zenzel Hirschfeld and Umtaka.
