You have never seen a blank page in the newspaper because journalists are trained to meet deadlines.

Deadlines put a huge amount of pressure on us as reporters and any journalist would tell you that there is a lot of stress associated with deadlines. Stress as an inevitable part of life is physiological and overwhelming so I felt like I have been carrying a load on my shoulder since the festive season.

This week Mosha Wellness Spa located at Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino read my mind and invited me to a Spa party.

In the back of my mind I thought what a better way to alleviate physical and mental tension than a massage therapy on a Tuesday right after work. With deadlines pressure mounting every day, I needed to feel relaxed, invigorated, mentally focused and ready to work at my best the next day.

I needed to keep energy levels, mental alertness and motivation high so I chose the Swedish massage because it promotes relaxation by releasing muscle tension. Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief and that screamed ‘me’. It was straight to business for my massage therapist for the day as she began her magic on my feet and instantly I could feel some of my pain being relieved. After applying the products, she used her hands to manipulate the soft-tissues as she moved towards my thighs.

As she repeated some of the routines, I could feel that the Swedish massage was starting to loosen tight muscles caused by daily newsroom activities such as sitting in front of a computer and working on field assignments.

The Swedish massage techniques are different from other methods as they are specific in the order in which the massage is done. As the therapist applied pressure with her touch, she asked if I had injuries or whether I had surgeries.

The way she went about her work, I could realise that the treatment can help rehabilitate injuries. From my previous massage I now know that this kind of massage increases oxygenation of blood and releases metabolic waste such as lactic and uric acids from the tissues of the muscles. As she moved on to my back I felt joint pain and stiffness reduced.

When she started my body was so tense but as she went on I started to feel more relaxed and calmer. It was like the massage therapist was listening to my needs and concerns.

It was a therapeutic massage which lasted for an hour and truth be told, I have never felt more refocused. After the massage I dived right into the relaxing environment of the spa party and everything was so blissful from the champagne to the table conversations at dinner.

Overall it is true what they say about Mosha Wellness Spa, it makes one feel like they are at a luxury safari resort, but it is only in Gaborone. Besides massage, the family owned and operated spa also offers pedicures, manicure and theravine facials.
