What a treat! Slicctreats

Yet another beautiful baby conceived in the era of lockdowns and the pandemic, Slicctreats is the brain child of 22-year-old Salome Gofhamodimo, that was established in 2020.

This home-based confectionery business derives its name from an alias the young ladies’ friends used to call her in high school and what is really awesome about that is how things have come full circle in that, the same friends now support her business.

The Slicctreats menu is subtle and yet robust, in that it offers cinnamon rolls and an array of Brownies alongside dessert cups. So the predominant treat of choice is ‘the brownie’.

If anyone has made it a mission to master the art of making brownies, it has to be this young lady, who prides herself in perfecting the craft and exploring new methods and ingredients to entice our palates.

Slicctreats offers a classic brownie, peanut butter swirl, the Oreo brownie, snicker type beat, salted caramel crunch and the brookie. As one can tell from the quirky names, these are design centric or bespoke type brownies that turn the treat into a special experience.

The business owner and baker Salome, says that her main focus on brownies stems from having wanted to start a baking company but not wanting to fall into the usual or common crop of cakes and cupcakes. She views the latter as a saturated market and wanted to stand out from the crowd after realising she hadn’t come across anyone specialising in brownies.

The love for baking would seem to have come from Salome’s mother who also bakes at home. The saying ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’, should have an extension for such scenarios to the effect of (and further produces its own).

This is because this young lady took the baton and truly ran with it and is fast carving a place for herself in the confectionary industry. We got an opportunity to review three of Slicctreats menu offers: Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, Oreo brownies and Snicker type beat brownies. The cinnamon rolls are some of the hugest I have come across.

A very generously sized, well-cooked sponge wrapping itself delicately in a maze of cinnamon and delicious cream cheese icing to top. They were a wonderful treat. The Oreo Brownie is irresistibly jaw dropping in the sense that you want to drop your jaw for another bite followed by the next. The sponge is soft and the famous Oreo Cookie is delicately embedded into the brownie in a meticulous manner. It’s chocolate delight. The Snicker Type Beat I can only imagine draws inspiration from a snicker bar which is thick and rich.

This brownie is topped with caramel sauce and finished with a layer of chocolate. If customers were given the option of naming the treats, this one would probably acquire the name ‘Temptation’ because it simply just calls you back for more. Lip-smacking goodness that almost whispers words of comfort to the palate, what a brownie! Slicctreats wants customers to experience a party in their mouths and have an overall fun culinary experience and this is evidenced even in the naming of their treats.

They are big on presentation and packaging as they believe one eats with their eyes first. Their main priority is to find steady growth in the market, with hopes to expand nationwide in the near future. Open Monday to Saturday (8am-6pm) and most holidays. They can be contacted on WhatsApp; +267 77432490, 0r @Slicctreats on Instagram and Facebook. Deliveries are available as well as corporate catering. Treat yourself with Slicctreats.
