FRANCISTOWN: A 47-year-old man of Tonota village was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend who has been repeatedly 'mistreating' him.

It is alleged that the deceased’s girlfriend aged 52 years has been physically and emotionally abusing him but he has never reported the matter to the police.

Tatitown police station commander Boipuso Baatweng confirmed that an employee of Francistown City Council (FCC) was murdered by his girlfriend in the early hours of Sunday morning at Bluetown location.

He said that the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim on the neck after a heated scuffle.

Baatweng said that the matter was reported to the police by a passerby who saw a group of people gathered at the scene.

“The passerby was prompted to go and see what was happening and to his surprise he saw a man lying down by the door in a pool of blood,’ he added.

Furthermore, before the passerby reported the matter to the police, it is alleged that the 52-year-old woman called one of their neighbours to come and assist as her boyfriend was lying motionless, the Tatitown police boss further shared.

He added that from their preliminary investigations there is a history of violence and abuse in the relationship.

“We have received a report from the lover’s neighbours that the deceased man was physically and emotionally being abused by the suspect time and again,” highlighted the police boss.

He said that the suspect was arrested and is due to appear in court tomorrow (Tuesday.

Baatweng said that this is the first incident of its kind in their policing area since the beginning of this year. He encouraged men to start reporting issues of abuse and violence against them.

Tatitown police station commander said that such cases prove that men are being abused and do not report as they turn a blind eye to violence.

He also warned people about cohabitation stating that when issues of unmarried partners staying together arise, in most cases one of them feels more entitled than the other.

In this case, the deceased was staying at the girlfriend's house in the Bluetown location.
