FRANCISTOWN: The police are investigating an incident in which a 37-year-old female motorist hit and caused the death of a 34-year-old male pedestrian.

Kutlwano Police Station commander, Neo Serumola confirmed that they have arrested the woman after the pedestrian's death along Marimavu Road. Marimavu Road is along the Tati River Lodge, stretching towards the traffic lights opposite Block 1.

Serumola said the businesswoman, who was driving a Nissan Elgrand, hit the male pedestrian at around 6am on Thursday. He said the pedestrian was taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where he passed away in the wee hours of Friday. “Investigations are still at a preliminary stage and we are still yet to find out what exactly transpired,” he added.

The Kutlwano police boss said there are cab stones and a walkway where the incident took place and they are still to determine what caused the pedestrian to be hit by the motorist.

He stated that the suspect is in police custody and is likely to be charged with causing death by dangerous or reckless driving unless investigations prove otherwise. Serumola indicated that this is the first incident of its kind they've registered in their policing area where a motorist kills a pedestrian.
