Government has taken a deliberate decision to discontinue the engagement of special constables and will accord them an opportunity to be absorbed into the Botswana Police Service police as regular police constables.

Tsogwane stated that in this regard, the special constables will fully benefit from Botswana Police Service conditions of service including pension accumulation, membership to organisational welfare schemes and progression.

"This was necessitated by ethical, operational and administrative challenges presented by their temporary engagement over long periods," Tsogwane said.
